Cant controle the speed of the mouse

Bug Description

When i try to increase the Acceleration of the mouse, it will just reset and go back down to low, and the speed settings aint working correct, cant feel any difference after setting the mouse speed to high.

Its a dell laptop mouse pad i am using.

What version of ubuntu were you using? Have you tried this under hardy? If so, does the problem still exist?

I can give some information on this bug, because now i got into this.
The mouse pointer acceleration seems that does affect the plugged in usb-mouse, in the mean time the touchpad reacts normally.
I use Ubuntu 8.04.1 (x86_64), hardy with Gnome 2.22.3
