Binary package hint: apt
trying to uninstall amarok in synaptic causes synaptic to remove kubuntu-desktop. running ubuntu feisty, amarok 1.4.7, with all the latest updates

This will be fixed in Ubuntu Gutsy, where kubuntu-desktop only recommends amarok, but does not depend on it anymore.
