gutsy - freeze after kde-logout with intel915gm

Bug Description

When shutting down KDE-session in gutsy, some strange characters occur on screen and
whole system freezes. No net-access from outside, no reaction on pressed keys etc.
Kubuntu-7.10, dist-upgraded 09. oct 07, Notebook Samsung X20, Intel 915GM graphics
"intel" xorg-driver. No messages in any log at all :(

Me too. I get the exact same behavior with a Compaq Presario model c304nr. Intel 915 graphics, intel xorg-driver. Last update was 2007-10-10.

No changes after update to kernel 2.6.22-14-generic, xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu7
It seem to work fine with old i810-driver (and 915resolution for 1400x1050)

Seems to me like a duplicate of bug #127101 . Please read the comments made there, and confirm if this is the behavior you are experiencing.

The behavior for me is very similar. I get the blank screen with strange characters/markings. I see a similar screen as in the avi in bug #127101, mine is more black, less characters. I only get this on logout/shutdown. I can switch video modes to my hearts content with no problems.

I am not running compiz, so that is not causing the problem. I suppose the differences can be attributed to differences in hardware.
