Bug Description

After upgrading Ubuntu Studio to 15.10, the desktop screen resolution is not remembered to the next login.
It is always 1920x1080, while I prefer 1360x768.
I am using HDMI to my LG47LM620T television.
Screen reports "Goldstar Company Ltd 72" which is wrong.

Setting "Save session for future logins" in the logout dialog did not change anything.
Still 1920x1080 desktop.

An observation:

I have two login accounts to the system, both have personalized desktop backgrounds.
Normally, the greeter assigns the selected user's desktop background before login.

When logging out now, the login greeter flickers and the default bluish desktop image is shown behind the login dialog, not my normal desktop image. If I log in in this mode, I get the wrong desktop resolution.

However, If I in the greeter dialog select the other user the selected user's desktop background returns behind the greeter dialog.
If I log in in this state the correct desktop resolution is used.

Summary: If I am able to make my own desktop image to show up behind the login greeter dialog by re-browsing the user list, I can log in with the correct screen resolution!

I'm experiencing this bug as well. Running Xubuntu (Xfce) 15.10 (wily) x86 (kernel 4.2.0-16) connected to a 1360x768 Hyundai IQ television monitor via a standard VGA cable. In 14.04 (trusty), I can manually set the screen resolution to 1360x768 and it will survive reboots, but in 15.10 the setting will usually - but not always - revert itself to 1280x1024, which looks horrible and is non-native for this display. The login screen is *never* the correct resolution after a restart. I have only a single user configured, and no custom backgrounds selected.

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 16.04. When I log in I got the resolution of 1280x1024. I can change this to 1600x1200 and it works fine until I log out.

It seems the log-in screen is also 1280x1024 which I can live with. When I log in it looks like the resolution increases temporarily because the background image shrinks and repeats itself both horizontally and vertically. But when I get my desktop the resolution is reduced back again to 1280x1024. Maybe there is some mechanism that thinks that my chosen resolution doesn't work and restore it to default?
