Bug Description

With systray enabled for Networkmanager in KDE Sytem Settings plasma desktop hangs a minute after startup.

After this long time to log into plasma 5: plasma-nm ends up with a unclickable blank icon

Same effekt starting kde5-nm-connection-editor via systray-icon or directly via console.

Disabling network in systray stops the problem.

plasma-nm 4:5.4.2-0ubuntu1
libkf5networkmanagerqt6 5.15.0-0ubuntu1

Qt: 5.4.2
KDE Frameworks: 5.15.0

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. right-click on plasma-nm applet and choose "Configure Network Connections"
2. disable and then enable "network" in system tray again.
3. start kde5-nm-connection-editor directly via console

In all three cases you have to wait a minute
(on my very fast pc with 2 Intel SSD and core i5 and 8 GB RAM)

The functionality of kde5-nm-connection-editor seems to be broken too:
Change or add Wifi-connections.

plasma-nm or kde5-nm-connection-editor seems no longer can connect to networkmanager-qt.

Output after starting kde5-nm-connection-editor in 15.10 it look like that:
...
networkmanager-qt: void NetworkManager::NetworkManagerPrivate::propertiesChanged(const QVariantMap&) Unhandled property "Devices"

Output after starting kde5-nm-connection-editor in 15.04 it look like that:

I don't think it's a duplicate of bug #1509334.
The package fix for that bug doesn't fix this problem
I still have a blank and usless icon at startup, no network icon, unless I log out (not shutdown or restart) and log in again.

I made my personal handmade fix like this:
I placed a bash script called netres.sh in my home with these commands within:

sleep 30
echo 'my_user_password' | sudo -S service network-manager restart

then in kubuntu startup settings I added the command 'sh netres.sh' with run in terminal option and close at termination.

At startup I have my network icon without noticing anything, like if it was a real bug fix.

I have the same problem here, with Acer 4552 notebook, when I log in, sometimes it takes too long an sometimes the Network Manager doesn’t appear at all... And with another Lenovo G470 notebook its just the same problem.. no NM anywhere and I can not connect with wifi.... I don’t think it is a duplicate of bug #1509334, its something new...
I have to restart service network-manager to get it working... everything else seems just fine. Kubuntu 15.10.
