Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After the latest update to xserver-xorg-video-intel, windows in my X session get visibly corrupted. Happens with kernel versions 2.6.22-13 and 2.6.22-12, but seems worse with -12. I have an integrated Intel G31 video chipset:

relevant lspci output:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

:~$ aptitude show xserver-xorg-video-intel
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu6

:~$ uname -a
Linux shub 2.6.22-13-generic #1 SMP Thu Oct 4 17:18:44 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Just FYI, the symptoms are still present after updating packages on Oct. 9, which included kernel version 2.6.22-14 and xorg version 7.2-5ubuntu13. The corruption is still not as bad as with kernel version 2.6.22-12, but does show up as horizontal white lines. The lines seem most likely to occur when scrolling web pages in Firefox, but also show up in other applications, such as text editors.

I wonder if this is similar at all to the 965GM corruption we were seeing with the "always" migration heuristic.

Can you please test with the following EXA option added to your driver section in xorg.conf?

  Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"

If that works, then perhaps we can extend the fix from bugs #177492/#152206 to include this chipset.

The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the -intel driver. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . You should be able to test the new -intel driver using the LiveCD. If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
Thanks.

I tested using the Hardy Alpha 6 LiveCD, and did not see any video corruption issues.

Thanks for testing. I guess we can close this bug report. Feel free to open it again if it still happens with current Hardy.
