Bug Description

Caffeine don't work on Ubuntu 14.04 with the graphic stack LTS-Vivid (Xorg 1.17). i've tested both the graphic stack original (xorg 1.15) as with the LTS-Utopic (Xorg 1.16) and Caffeine it work correctly.

I believe this is the python-xlib bug. You need to update to newer python-xlib (e.g. version from 16.04) or downgrade your graphics stack.
