Bug Description

Modern buildings often come with doorbells that have cameras and voice support. There are apps for iPad/iPhone which would ring the device when someone rings the doorbell. Tapping the notification would open the app and establish a voice/video link to the doorbell system.

In order for this to work, some connection channel needs to be kept alive all the time. Upon certain data packages, the device needs to ring.

Here's one example for such a system: http://www.elcom.de

There are multiple different ways of implementing this feature, a long-standing network connection to a mobile device is one way of doing it. Using push notifications is another approach. What would prevent a central intelligent home hub to emit notifications that are delivered via our existing push infrastructure?

Well, the situation that I would have to buy an additional "central intelligent home hub" and need a constant and reliable internet connection for push notifications, when I basically just want two devices to talk to each other over an ad-hoc WiFi connection, does feel a bit like overkill.
