Bug Description

In Gutsy SHMConfig is disabled in the default xorg settings, which makes the synaptics touchpad configurator tool that is available via one of the repositories not work w/o manually updating xorg.

So I edited xorg and got it working, only to discover that when I messed with the new screen/monitor/resolution control panel (for my new monitor) it removed the SHMConfig setting and my touchpad was misconfigured again.

In general, I think that the synaptics setting should be to set maxtaptime to 0 by default. SHMConfig is needed to fine tune the touchpad settings, but I've found in the past that the settings are also lost when resuming from standby, and the only truly workable solution is to disable tapping in xorg.conf.

So my overall suggestion is to disable tapping for synaptics in xorg.conf and then fix the issue in the new screen resolution/multi monitor configurator so that it preserves synaptics settings on updates to the configuration. If you don't think that's a good idea then at least the SHMConfig setting should be preserved.
