boot hangs with kernal 2.6.22-13

i updated ubuntu feisty to gutsy beta on my old toshiba satellite laptop. on kernal version 2.6.22-13, the boot shows its ubuntu studio logo and loads for a bit, then it hangs with a blank screen. in recovery mode it boots up but i can't start Xorg. with kernal version 2.6.20-16 it boots normally.

You still can't boot with a later version of kernel/Ubuntu? Attach lspci -vv.
