Bug Description

Binary package hint: blender

Kubuntu 7.10 clean install. First time time I tried to open Blender since the installation. You just begin to see the application (all screen turns Blender background grey) then "poof" it's gone, with no traces left behind, and nothing left running in KSysguard process table.

I forgot to mention...
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A65-s126 with ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP video card. I had some screen drawing issues with Blender on this card in the past under Feisty, but had them ironed out nicely for quite some time. Since installing Gutsy I have also tried Blender 2.43 from the Feisty repos with the same crashing results.

Still not working after todays Gutsy updates... I keep hoping! Just received my copy of "The Essential Blender" and I'm wanting to do something besides reading it! :)

Important discovery! While this behavior continues when attempting to launch Blender from the menu or the panel button, double-clicking on a .blend file opens Blender perfectly! I'm a happy boy!

Another important discovery... I still have crashes, and I spoke too soon about "opens Blender perfectly." I can sometimes open a file, but not always. And as soon as I attempt to create a new file, it crashes. In other words, I still can't use my new book.

Still getting the crashes. I hate having to go to Windows to use Blender... aside from "the principle of the thing," Blender is quite slow there, too. More than once I've wished I had stayed with Feisty! Oh, well. Good things come to those who wait!

Sorry, but I'm no longer using Kubuntu, using Mepis 8 now. Also, using a
later version of Blender. Thanks anyway.
