Bug Description
The description for the mysql-server metapackage is wrong.
The package's data reads:
Package: mysql-server
Version: 5.5.35+
Depends: mysql-server-5.5
Description-en: MySQL database server (metapackage depending on the latest version)
However, the package depends on mysql-server-5.5 while there is mysql-server-5.6 available as well. Thus, it doesn't depend on the "latest version" as it claims.
In fact, mysql-server-5.5 is the oldest version in the current repositories.
The description should read something like
"MySQL database server (metapackage depending on a conservative default version)"

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
This is a fair point. But the problem is effectively fixed in the latest release of Ubuntu where only mysql 5.6 is available. I don't expect we'll be doing a release with two versions concurrently again. I also don't think it's appropriate to change the package description the release that is already out.
I'll mark this bug Fix Released to represent that it is fixed in the latest release.
> metapackage depending on a conservative default version
Note that on 14.04 MySQL 5.6 is available in universe only, so for example you won't get security updates with it unless updated packaging is prepared, tested and contributed to the security team.
