Bug Description
The "Window geometry hints" setting, which is enabled by default, is causing a number of problems. I reported one of them in bug 1408040 (wrongly marked as invalid), but even the maintainer Stephen Boddy already knows (and has written on every bug) that it causes "Strange sizing issues or rapidly shrinking windows".
This is not acceptable.
As a short-term solution, the setting should be disabled by default.
A proper solution would be either to remove the "Window geometry hints" feature altogether, or to fix the relevant bugs rather than just marking them as invalid.

"Fixed" in r1664 by disabling window geometry hints by default.
I've changed my mind, and yes, I am tired of answering that the feature is problematic. On the other hand I do not have an understanding of why the issues with WGH happen, and it's not something I use. If someone wants to fix it, great, but I'll leave the problematic version there for as long as is practical. Once it becomes impractical, I'll use the dark side to destroy it!
