Bug Description

Ubuntu 15.04
file-roller 3.14.2-0ubuntu5

Reproduce:
Open an archive and click extract. In the directory browser press Ctrl+H to show hidden folders. Cancel and close archive manager.

Expected:
This should have no effect on the file browser in general after archive manager is closed.

Actual outcome:
Hidden files and folders are shown by default every time a file manager window is opened.

Workaround:
Same as reproduce, this time press Ctrl+H to hide hidden folders. The setting applies to file manager.

Thank you for your bug report but that's not a bug but a feature, the setting is shared between filechoosers and the filemanager

I just realized that my description doesn't make it very clear what the real issue is:
after changing the setting to show hidden files from archive manager, it's not possible to change this setting back from nautilus. Please read the thread I linked - there are lots of people coming up with weird workarounds to reset the settings.

Right, that's a confusing case. You can change it from the preferences dialog but that's not obvious

That particular issue has been resolved Ubuntu with that change
https://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=2e1ac987268cd57349cdc2763d2442b532ce3c49

Now toggling the settings is changing the stored preference as well. We are going to look at landing this change in Ubuntu next cycle

I don't see this as fixed in Ubuntu 16.04 as of today, I was experiencing this for the last few days. Opening a Save dialog in Firefox and pressing Ctrl-H fixed the issue. I don't much see what this has to do with file-roller; it's more an issue with with system open/save dialog window.

Second Dominik's post as not fixed. The hidden files are showing in Nautilus on 16.04 by default and when changed back do not stay like that.

My thanks to him, his suggested fix via Firefox Save dialog worked for me - I have tried many of the older suggestions - including resetting nautilus preferences and the archive fix above, but his was the only one that fixed this issue.
