Bug Description

It would be really good if there could be a way of setting it so that during the time that the screensaver is on, if there is any interaction which wakesup the machine happens, for it to automatically ask for the password like it can do after a set time if set. So that if the screensaver turns on, and say somebody wiggles the mouse to wake it up, it requests for the password before it allows them to log in.

xscreensaver has had this feature for as long as I know.

Under power management settings, configure the following to your discretion:

Automatically lock the session: "When the screensaver is activated"
Delay locking after screensaver for "5 seconds"
Lock screen when system is going for sleep "enabled"

I'm using "Xfce Power Manager" to configure the above.

Yes, I realise that you can set it to lock after a certain duration, however this means that for example the screensaver will start and then after 5 seconds it will lock and the screen will go black, then if you try and wake the machine it will ask you for your password, however if you do it before the 5 second delay, it will simply resume without the password prompt.

So what I would like as the new feature would be for it to allow you to set it so that if you wake it from the actual screensaver, it asks you for the password, instead of you having a delay before the screen goes black.

If the feature which I am describing is how it should already work then I must have found a bug because that is not how it works for me.

Have you tried setting the delay to 1 second? If this still isn't suitable, you might want to lock your screen manually rather than waiting for the screen saver?

Under "Screensaver" make sure you have the "Lock screen after" setting set to 0.

Confirmed works as you describe with command:

> xscreensaver-command -activate

I've noticed various power management tools interfere with the xscreensaver default xlock. This could be why you're experiencing difficulty.

XScreenSaver 5.30
