Trash does not restore files

For some reason, files inside "Trash" cannot be restored. Whenever I try restoring a file that was deleted or moved to trash, I get this error,

"Could not determine original location of 'My file'. The item cannot be restored from trash".

I just went to Ubuntu 8 LTS (yes, The Beaver). Trash does not restore.
