The test failure might now be correct (faulty test). Following recent changes clients will indeed recycle buffers more than touching new ones.

Incidentally, I can't reproduce the failure even on mako.

Incomplete. Can't reproduce the bug, even in Jenkins.

That said, the attached branch will make the test much more reliable and less prone to spurious results like this.
