Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-main-menu

I'm running Gutsy Beta and have gnome-main-menu 0.9.8.svn.20070 installed. I currently have no choices (Lock, Log Out...) listed under "System".

Also, the Places section duplicates the directory name for most of my directories. Example: "Code Code" or "Documents Documents"

Most worrisome, I have no Favorite Applications button and no way to access any applications.

I don't have any way to replicate these bugs, this is just the way the applet was after adding it to my panel.

After looking through gconf keys, it seems that not much has been done to port default configuration settings from Suse to Ubuntu.

I found out how I lost the Applications button. I had no Applications in the "Favorite Applications" tile table when I first loaded the applet. When I pressed the Applications button, it just disappeared completely.

running "dpkg-reconfigure gnome-main-menu" reset enough of the configuration to get the button back and from that point I was able to drag application icons into the applet, which seems to solve this part of my problems.

If anyone is maintaining this package, let me know if you want a hand fixing anything. I have seen the duplicate directory names in the "Favorite Places" table on more than one machine.

I had the same problem. The workaround I found is:

Make a complete remove in synaptic of gnome-main-menu and libslab
Make a new install

It seems to be related to config because making a plain remove does not fix it.

Sorry should have mentioned using Ubuntu 7.10 and a small 2 pixel square seems to appear instead.

Trying to run the Main Menu tool(s) even after re-installing them (via synaptic) does not fix things

HELP!
URGENT!

How do we do anything if we cannot access our apps?

@JAF

This bug is related to gnome-main-menu package which is not the default panel menu shipped in Ubuntu 7.10. If this is the problem you are experiencing then add the default menu to the panel in order to access your applications.

If you are having problems with the default panel menu, then this is the wrong bug for you.

Same on me: Documents and Places not visible, System part empty. As Mariano Stokle wrote I had to

Make a complete remove in synaptic of gnome-main-menu and libslab
Make a new install

Problem appeared after upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 RC or later?

I haven't install 8.10 yet, but I will be shortly (probably today), I'll post back after I try to replicate this bug.

No possibility to edit main menu on principal (User 1000) login.

This after I accidentally deleted the main menu, and struggled to restore it.

Trying to run alacarte from Konsole as user [tim] or sudo reports:

I can launch Synaptic using Deskbar, but have no privilege to actually do anything except look. However all is there and working on another privileged user log-in!

Using this other user, I loaded gnome-main-menu and libslab (which was missing) but no effect

I have also checked user/owner for each file I can think of - just in case whatever is missing is only occulted.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
