Shouldn't the Icon Guideline propose using vector graphics instead of pixel images?

Bug Description

The design guidelines for icons (https://elementary.io/docs/human-interface-guidelines#launcher-icons) tells us the following:

"You should create separate icons for all possible display sizes, including 32, 48, 64, and 128 pixels. This ensures that your icons will display properly throughout the OS without being blurry or oddly weighted."

Should the guideline not encourage the usage of vector graphics in order to avoid worrying about different resolutions at all?

It further would make icons more future-proof facing a period of ever-increasing resolutions also in the desktop/laptop sector.

reports against the website should happen on the website's github. However this issue is invalid. Using a scalable vector format (like we do) doesn't mean you can skip provided the proper sizes.

I didn't know that. How come? Wouldn't the OS be able to generate them on the fly?
