Bug Description

until recent updates,

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri 'file:////home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

reset wallpaper to the desired picture. Most of the time Wily boots to a horizontally hashed wallpaper which used to be corrected by doing gsettings once or twice or three times, now I have to go to settings > wallpaper > to set the jpg several times until it clears up.

Now gsettings fails, gets the original brown screen. gsettings is broken failing to set the desired wallpaper.

From Comment #3 I installed

linux-headers-4.2.0-040200_4.2.0-040200.201508301530_all.deb
linux-headers-4.2.0-040200-generic_4.2.0-040200.201508301530_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.2.0-040200-generic_4.2.0-040200.201508301530_amd64.deb

which is the latest I saw, dated 8-30-2015.

gsettings still fails, wallpaper turns into some brown default.

Settings Appearance still works.

This is the code that fails that worked fine a couple weeks ago:

#!/bin/bash
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri 'file:////home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'
exit 0

I also tried this gsettings on an Acer Laptop with Wily updated recently, gsettings fails the same way.

Note that the linux-headers-4.2.0-040200_4.2.0-040200.201508301530_
is a bit of a bear because the desktop icons fall off the left of the screen so it's pretty hard to guess where the icons are.

Whatever was changed to day really messed things up. Gsettings still fails. Turns wallpaper to brown however terminal window screen text garbaged. Never did that before today's updates.

There seem to be a number of logs - is there any of what updates were installed today? I couldn't find any in /var/log

Screen is messed up. Let me try today's Daily Build which likely doesn't have today's updates. Might work better....

as of Sept 12 Wily updates gsettings still fails to work, reverts to default brown screen.

Installed Utopic kernel on Wily, now Settings Appearance Wallpaper displays jpg fine. With Wily kernel displays unreadable.

gsettings settings fails with Utopic kernel on Wily.

With Utopic kernel on Wily,, Settings Appearance Wallpapers sets Wallpaper O.K.

Nothing in syslog or .xsession-errors or Xorg.0.log when gsettings fails.

Is there any way to get something back from gsettings when it doesn't work?
