Bug Description

I suspended my PC for like about 1,5 - 2 hours and when I resumed the desktop had a black background, you could see the launcher bat you were unable to do anything it was freezed.
This is my hardware: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/3203c7c5a43a509c0f22.
I am attaching the screen-shots of my desktop after resuming, also in terminal (CTRL+ALT+F1) it looked rather garbled.

Carla Sella, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

This is wiered.
I tried, with my PC booted on kernel: 4.3.0-040300rc2-generic, to launch this command in terminal:

sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"

as it says here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend#A.22resume-trace.22_debugging_procedure_for_finding_buggy_drivers

My PC looks like suspending: it turnes off and the power LED slowly flashes when in the suspended state (at least it looks like suspended). I wait a bit, 2-3 minutes, press the power, button, I see the HD LED flashing, but my PC returns from suspension without entering the lock screen, I find it resumed just as I left it as nothing happened, no blue screen no freeze, nothing.

I am attaching the dmesg file obtained immediatly after resuming from suspension. As I did this twice I have two dmesg files to attach, one for each time I suspended.

Hi Christopher, I will do what you suggest in comment #15, meanwhile I had left my PC suspended for 1 hour and when I resumed I had a blue screen, I am attaching the dmesg output run just after resuming.
Anyway I will now update my BIOS and then let you know.
Thanks.

Upstream bug 92522 has been reported as duplicate of bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92504.
Installing upstream kernel 4.3.0-040300rc7-generic with the patch released for this bug definitely solved my problems.

Carla Sella, having a fix in mainline, but not in Ubuntu wouldn't fit the definition of Fix Released as defined in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status .

Sorry thought that kernel 4.3.0-040300rc7-generic would land in Ubuntu a fix the issue, but you are right Ubuntu doesn't have this kernel yet.
