Bug Description

Just experienced this after today's update of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy:

When downloading a file in Firefox, the "OK" button in the file download dialog box sometimes is not active (i.e. "greyed out"). This happens intermittently. If you subsequently click into the de-activated "OK" button, it then becomes active and you can then click it a second time to begin the file download. This is not a serious bug, it is cosmetic in nature, but it may confuse some people.

actually if i remember correctly this is a security feature in firefox.

say for instance, a website asks you to type in "something" in a text box, and then press enter. if the webpage downloads something when you press "g" and askes you to run the file, and you press enter, then the file runs. bad if you look at the screen while typing.

Strange, this is the first time I've encountered that with Firefox. Also, why does it happen only intermittently? Non-deterministic behaviour is troublesome. It isn't an important bug, but it could indicate some underlying problem with firefox/gnome or even gnome.

I've found that when i grab the title bar for the open/save dialog window and move it (anywhere else other than where it popped up), as soon as i release the mouse button the OK button becomes un-"ghosted" and i can click on it. Filed under this bug as it appears to be related.

I am confirming this bug. In my opinion the behaviour is more annoying than helpful. If it is meant as a security feature, I would suggest to grey out the button only if the user was actually tying into a text box at that moment and add an explanation for this into the dialog box.

I can also confirm that right now the greying out happens only sometimes, but this doesn't seem connected to whether I am tying in a textbox or not. It seems to happen more often if there are already other downloads running, but it is difficult to tell. Finally, just placing the mouse cursor over the "ok" button and waiting for about 5 seconds also reenables the button.
