first attempt to run program from activities menu fails

Bug #1487893 reported by themusicgod1

Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
Fix Released
Undecided
Unassigned

Bug Description

1) boot into gnome
2) click on 'activities'
3) click on 'terminal'
4) observe spinning circle pointer...

there doesn't appear to be a #5. Gnome just stays hung in that state.

Sometimes leaving to tty and coming back to xorg/re-logging in causes it to load, other times
killing gnome-shell is the only way to unlock the session.

Sometimes merely going locking the screen by going to ctrl-alt-f1 and back seems to also get it at least close enough to running that it runs on its own.
