The same problem I have with Kubuntu 7.10 in combination with Thunderbird. The Thunderbird version that came with the Kubuntu 7.10 distribution is 2.0.06. Now, the version 2.0.09. is relevant. So, several dictionary spell-check ad-ons cannot be installed any more because they are related to newer versions of Thunderbird. Nor do I manage to directly install Thunderbird 2.0.0.9. for Linux.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. If I understand, you are trying to update thunderbird with the built-in thunderbird updater? This is deactivated in Ubuntu, the updates come trough Update Manager. The current version of Thunderbird in Gutsy's repositories is 2.0.0.8. The 2.0.0.9 version is not yet available, but will provably be soon as an update. Thanks

Dear Antonio

Thanks for your reply; after writing my message in the bug report menu,
useful feedback on the same subject matter came in to me via the Kubuntu
and Ubuntu user groups. Below I deal with a few finalising issues.

With pleasure!
Just one question in this context. Is there any website via which I can
report feed back and suggestions also if I do not have an immediate
'bug'? I work with the 'Kubuntu' variant of Gutsy.

> If I understand, you are trying to update thunderbird with the built-in thunderbird updater?
Exactly, this is what I tried until it became clear to me what you say
me too: that the updating is being organised via the general update
process of Ubuntu/ Kubuntu instead of that of Thunderbird.

I already found one or two times this 'Update Manager', however I cannot
find it back. Can you tell me where I can find this 'Update Manager' in
the Kubuntu Menu? How can I work with it?

If you could tell me how I could use the 'Update manager' to install
2.0.08., I would be very grateful.
Currently, I have still 2.0.0.6. on the PC - however, later on I did
manage to install the dictionaries that were allegedly 'incompatible'
with it. I also managed to install other adds-on.

Thanks for your efforts. Have a good weekend!

Respectfully Yours,

Bas.

Hello Bas

As you saud, the Ubuntu and Kubuntu usergroups are on of the places where you can find support. Besides that there are many others. There is the tech answer system https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu and many others such as forums, IRC chats, and online documentation. You can find a list of them here http://www.ubuntu.com/support for Ubuntu and here http://www.kubuntu.org/support.php for Kubuntu.

To run Update Manager (on an system with English language) Go to KMenu → System → Adept Manager - Manage Packager. When prompted for a password type your user password and press OK. Then click on "Check for Updates" and after it as checked, click on "Install updates" if any available. For more information on using Adept refer to the system help or Kubuntu online documentation http://www.kubuntu.org/doc/7.10/index/C/index.html.

As for the dictionaries, you can find compatible ones in the Adept manager once again. Just type "Thunderbird" and "Your_language" and a pakage will appear. Install that once if it is the correct one.

Fell free to report bugs that you may find in Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I wish you have a good experience using kubuntu.
