Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

In order to be able to rotate a monitor, user is forced to add

Option "RandRRotation" "on"

in his xorg.conf

Ubuntu should automatically add this option (if it can cause harm, add it only for supported drivers).

Sorry I didn't see the request for these files before.

Here they are.

Without manually adding Option "RandRRotation" "on" in xorg.conf, xrandr -o left fails.

You are using the proprietary nvidia driver, which doesn't seem to support randr out of the box.

I would say this error describes the problem much better than bug #527428 and would mark duplication the other way round.

The other report says there's no way for rotate, but it's really problem with default configuration values. Rotation support should be enabled by default in xorg.conf or somewhere in driver's default values.
