elantech "three finger tap" not registering

Bug Description
I have an Asus X552EP with an elantech touchpad.
One and two finger gestures work well.
Three finger tap works in Win8 but not in Ubuntu 14.04 (3.13.0-
I am using gnome-session flashback.
Bringing up xev I see no event for a three finger tap being generated.
I tried to cat the event device just to see if data was being produced but it printed nothing for all mouse actions.
Other than making it work (which is really useful in some programs):
Is the problem in the kernel driver or in Xorg?
Is there a known fix?
Is there a known issue?
Does all version 4 hardware support pressure and width?
