Bug Description

version 3.13.0-61-generic generates a kernel panic right in the bootup on an Aspire E1-111 (Celeron N2930). It happens so soon that it doesn't register in the syslog.

Strangely enough, it did boot up one time in 'debug mode', the dmesg from that is included.

Most of the time it does the kernel panic there as well, though. Versions earlier than 3.13.0-61 work fine.

Due to nature of the issue, I cannot run apport-collect. The best I can do is a (literal...) screenshot

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.2 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Also, can you capture and post a screen shot of the panic?

Did tests, with following result:

- 4.2.0-rc5 upstream: works (although wifi driver missing but that's unrelated)
- 3.19.0-25-generic (from 'linux-generic-lts-vivid'): works
- 3.16.0-45-generic (from 'linux-generic-lts-utopic'): works

3.13.0-57 and earlier: works (tested: 57, 55, 54, and various lower ones)

3.13.0-58, 3.13.0-59, 3.13.0-61, kernel panic (see comment #3 for screenshot)

so it appears the regression was introduced in 3.13.0-58, and later kernel series have no issues.
