Bug Description

Recently I've installed the Kubuntu 7.10 beta on my secondary system, which is a P3, 650 MHz with 512 megs of RAM and a Geforce2 MX200 (NV11DDR).

Initially, it worked without any problems at all, but after the most recent update I have done (earlier today, I believe), a reboot (i.e., an X server restart) made X fall back to 640x480 @ 60hz. Searching the bug tracker, I found that someone has had this problem previously in 5.10, but I'm unsure as to whether this is the same problem.

Executing 'xresprobe nvidia', as root, I found that it did detect the correct settings for my monitor - however, doing 'ddcprobe' returned 'edidfail'.

Manually inputting HorizSync and VertRefresh in xorg.conf, it works fine, and allows me to use the proper resolution again.

I have the same experience on a machine I administer remotely; the initial installation of gutsy beta was just fine, but after a update package update was performed yesterday, the same low resolution occurred. And sure, setting hz and vr manually fixes the issue.

Btw, and xorg has never been able to autodetect the correct HorisZync or VertRefresh values of the CRT.

I noticed that there was nine copys of xorg.conf each with some variation on content, though none of them seems contain the original xorg.conf i edited after installation. Seems to be a xorg update autodetect/setup-bug.
