Bug Description

During the "copying files" step, the Ubuntu 64-bit Desktop 15.04 installation crashes with an I/O error dialog: [Errno 5] Input/output error. Very helpful.

This is a clean installation on a new 500GB dynamically-allocated virtual hard-drive from an ISO file, rather than a physical disc. I chose not to download
updates while installing, nor to install the third-party software.

I'm running within the current version of VirtualBox (4.4.30, r101610), and I suspect it's a compatibility issue with one of my system settings, so is a brief summary of what I changed compared to the default:

* Shared Clipboard -> Host-to-Guest (very unlikely)
* Base Memory 2048MB, Enable I/O APIC
* 4 processors, 100% execution cap, PAE/NX enabled
* Video memory 128MB (likely irrelevant)

Since initially submitting this, I have also tested it with 1 processor and no I/O APIC; and separately with PAE/NX disabled - neither made a difference.

As for the host machine, yes, I have enough hard drive space (2TB free), enough memory, and a modern, 64-bit processor (i7-2600k with "8 cores"). I also ran the Windows 7 built-in error checking tool on the host hard drive, and it found no errors.

Your installation medium is corrupt. You will need to recreate it and should verify it using the check disc option from the boot menu.

Changed in ubiquity (Ubuntu):
