Bug Description

After last system update, I can still start PuTTY, but when chosing a pre-saved connection, i got the following error on the console:

"
The program 'putty' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 17948 error_code 8 request_code 18 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
"

The program then crashes.

Could this be the same as Debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=295605 'pterm doesn't start with Unicode data in cut buffer ("Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch")'?

That was fixed upstream in commit 36ddc5708
https://git.tartarus.org/?p=simon/putty.git;a=commit;h=36ddc57084
which debuted in upstream release 0.68; so the fix is in Ubuntu Bionic and later.

I haven't checked if the fix was backported for any of the currently supported Ubuntu distros (Precise 0.62, Trusty 0.63, Xenial 0.67).
