Print test page: page will only print if there is paper in tray 1.
Printer selection works for other operating systems!

Which application are you using? Do you still have this issue?

I also have a LaserJet 4100 at the office, and I face various issues related to tray selection, but they are different in each application/printing framework:

* OpenOffice allows to set "Tray 3" and "Tray 4" to "Installed" in the advanced printer options, but I have to activate tray 4 and choose this when I want to print on tray 3.
* The GTK print dialog (e.g., Evolution) lets me choose only the built-in trays 1 and 2, not the optional trays 3 or 4. There is no option to activate these trays in the advanced options.
* The GNOME print dialog (e.g., Tomboy) lets me choose trays 1 to 4, although tray 4 is not installed (which seems to be better than not to be able to choose these at all).

I never solved it, so I went back to Windows. Thanks for replying.

I just figured that the new printer config tool Ubuntu uses allows to activate the additional trays globally. Then the GTK print dialog shows also tray 3 and 4. This seems to be the best option: Once activate the specific properties of that printer and then use them from all apps. So for me this issue is somewhat solved (except that OO.o still handels this somewhat odd, although it works, at least).

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 RC or later?
