Bug Description
Go to printer properties and select any tray other than the default tray 1.
Print test page: page will only print if there is paper in tray 1.
Printer selection works for other operating systems!

Which application are you using? Do you still have this issue?
I also have a LaserJet 4100 at the office, and I face various issues related to tray selection, but they are different in each application/ printing framework:
* OpenOffice allows to set "Tray 3" and "Tray 4" to "Installed" in the advanced printer options, but I have to activate tray 4 and choose this when I want to print on tray 3.
* The GTK print dialog (e.g., Evolution) lets me choose only the built-in trays 1 and 2, not the optional trays 3 or 4. There is no option to activate these trays in the advanced options.
* The GNOME print dialog (e.g., Tomboy) lets me choose trays 1 to 4, although tray 4 is not installed (which seems to be better than not to be able to choose these at all).
