Bug Description

Binary package hint: teamspeak-client

I install it with adept, from multiverse (of course). So TeamSpeak client just don't work. if you've packaged it think it's come from my configuration, i test gutsy on my laptop (i use my desktop to work) and this is my configuration (very old i know): compaq presario 700 (p716e) with athlon 1.2ghz, 256mo, chipset based on via, GC S3 VT8636A, network usb wifi dongle, thomson wlga 1500a with windows driver sis163u working ndiswrapper. On Kubuntu.
The symptom's are hdd 100% activity and big system lag, so when i wait very long time nothing work. I launched team speak client in shell but there's no message, just don't work.
I know teamspeak is not the better voip, and it's not free but my server admin team work with it... (so don't troll :p )

in hardy, amd64, if you wait long enough (5 minutes or so), it will finally startup
there seems to be some font problem I guess (fonts look bad in the menus)
after startup, the application works fine though

So far having one sound server like pulseaudio is great, but it has not clear up Teamspeak clarity or allowed it to fully working for me in Hardy. I can jump in to TS and the mic might be muted (no matter what I do - I can not fix this unless I change settings and log out), or I could jump in another time and the mic is on but I can still not speak through mic. Still again I can jump in and I can get sound but still not talk. All in all it is not consistently giving me a clean experience with Teamspeak.

AMD 64 x2 4000+
2GB DDR2 RAM
(2) WD 320GB
Geforce 7800 GT
HDA-Intel - HDA Nvidia

I actually like Mumble better, but most of my friends use TS. Also TS has all the permissions and Admin worked out so you don't have to manually tweak it.

I am facing the same problem so I removed the teamspeak installation coming with hardy and installed from teamspeak website and still same problem; it's very very very slow with font problems. This used to work properly, so it's almost a library update or something that messed teamspeak.

TeamSpeak is unfortunately an OSS application so it would like to have exclusive access to the sound card.

However, those using Hardy (which uses Pulseaudio) can use the padsp to load teamspeak using OSS emulation, which in my tests worked pretty well...

so you can alter the script that starts teamspeak, or you can run it from a terminal, or you can alter the menu shortcut to it.

I altered the script:
open a terminal and enter:
sudo gedit /usr/bin/teamspeak

find line 6 or so:
/usr/lib/teamspeak-client/teamspeak.real $@

alter it to:
padsp /usr/lib/teamspeak-client/teamspeak.real $@

Hopefully the packager can update the teamspeak-client package so this OSS app works with hardy and/or intrepid out of the box.

PS: I've not tried the intrepid version of this package yet...
PPS: not sure the situation on Gutsy, you might be able to use the ALSA wrapper for OSS...

Well, in Lucid out of thebox you get shuttering sound.

If however, you go to http://teamspeak.com/?page=downloads&archive=1 and install it manually from there, it seems to work fine.
