Bug Description

Binary package hint: qemu

On a Ubuntu 7.10 installed host machine I'm having trouble installing 7.10 on a guest machine.

Download the latest Gutsy Gibbon (7.10) Beta ISO from the following url:

http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/7.10

Go ahead and launch it under QEMU:

qemu -cdrom ubuntu-7.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso -boot d

Normally, at this point you should get a nice LiveCD display... Instead I get the following error message:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu4) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs) _

This hinders my ability to run Ubuntu 7.10 on 7.10.

I got this error too

I had feisty and gutsy guests working in feisty host, now upgraded the host to gutsy and the guests stopped working leaving me in that initramfs shell

If I use Feisty's qemu all works fine
I have Dapper and Edgy Guests and this work fine under gutsy's and feisty's qemu version
Feisty and Gutsy Guests does not work with gutsy's qemu version

For me I have a similar problem. gutsy qemu won't successfully the gusty desktop i386 livecd (ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso). But I don't get an error displayed before it drops into busybox.

Commandline:
qemu -cdrom /media/Nano/ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso -m 512 -boot d

If it's any assistance, here is my casper.log from the vm.

Looks like a duplicate of bug #123185. The solution given there works for me.

I've tried to boot hardy alpha4 in qemu on gutsy, which booted up without dropping to initramfs.

it failed to bring up X, but this is another bug to report ;)
