docs for TRANSLATE-TO-FOREIGN, FREE-TRANSLATED-OBJECT, TRANSLATE-FROM-FOREIGN say the 'type' parameter is a symbol, and results are undefined they are specialized with anything other than EQL specializer on a symbol naming a defctype.

TRANSLATE-INTO-FOREIGN-MEMORY says the 'type' parameter is a symbol or (:struct name).

The examples all specialize on a class instead of a symbol, usually from DEFINE-FOREIGN-TYPE, which seems to match the current behavior.
