Bug Description

A lot of modern laptop use Elantech 0501 touch pad. One properly works only with 3.13 kernels. A have found that only one, higher than 3.13 is 3.18.7. The rest of kernels does not work properly. It means that there are problems with Click and marking text or touch pad do not work at all.

still affects. I see there is a few kinds of elantech touch pad. There are some newer releases of one and there is a lot of troubles.
For example touch pad used in the Packard Bell EN TF71BM.

In some kernels it looks like touch pad works but you cannot paste text. There is some problem with mouse buttons.
Try to install Mate 14.04.02 on EN TF71BM. Problems from the beginning

Path for elantech does not work in that case. But I can say that kernels 3.13 works well with Elantech 0501

Hi,
I would like to report that kernel 3.16.00-45 (utopic) has resolved problem with Elantech 0501 touch pad used in the Packard Bell ENTF71BM laptop. In the bios there are 2 settings: advanced and basic.

At the moment in advanced mode touch pad works perfectly but I see that in basic mode (set in bios) system hangs at start
