Bug Description

now we have alsa-firmware-loaders, it would be great to have the alsa-firmware package, you can pick up the one done by Ubuntu Studio packager....

I just precise that I own a RME Multiface sound card, chipset is hdsp for alsa. Hdsp utils are installed but not the firmwares... See below the command line message :

ttoine@ttoine-music:~$ hdsploader
hdsploader - firmware loader for RME Hammerfall DSP cards
Looking for HDSP + Multiface or Digiface cards :
Card 0 : RME Hammerfall DSP at 0xfdee0000, irq 10
Upload firmware for card hw:0
Unable to open file '/usr/share/alsa/firmware/hdsploader/multiface_firmware_rev11.bin' for reading
Card 1 : HDA NVidia at 0xfe020000 irq 5

The Ubuntu Studio team have the .deb package.

MMA, is it possible to have the alsa-firmware.deb file being downloadable on the ubuntustudio.org website ? otherwise I will put it on one of my website, I think.

ps : the .deb is enclosed with this comment

Be careful, it is packaged only for i386. Can someone package it for amd64 ?

If you want the package, it is built for i386 and amd64 in my PPA [0]. The 1.0.15 version has been uploaded for Hardy, whilst Gutsy still has 1.0.14rc4. For some reason, the PPA has put the Gutsy version in Multiverse, which is correct, but the Hardy version in Main. I'm uploading a new Hardy version to try and fix this (1.0.15+dfsg1~tsmithe2).

[0] https://edge.launchpad.net/~tsmithe/+archive
For Gutsy:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tsmithe/ubuntu gutsy multiverse
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tsmithe/ubuntu gutsy multiverse

Hardy (enabling main and multiverse to be sure):

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tsmithe/ubuntu hardy main multiverse
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tsmithe/ubuntu hardy main multiverse

There are also other packages there (wired), so main and multiverse are not the only sections. If you wish to have more info, just browse through the archive.

If it is not possible to have it in Hardy, think that medibuntu.org may be able to host the package on their repository. It would be quite logical, because you can find a lot of restricted stuff on their repo that are not in standard ubuntu for legal reasons or packaging lack.
