Bug Description
Binary package hint: nautilus
Let me start by saying I am New. Very New. Only been using Ubuntu for 2 days, so please be kind...lol
I own a Supermicro Workstation Dual Pentium Xeon 2.8GHz Processors. I am using an nVidia Quadro FX 1100 AGP 8x card and I have 2Gb Ram installed.
I installed Beryl, Ubuntu then... (I am running Ubuntu Release 7.04 (feisty) btw)... automatically downloaded the nVidia driver it says I needed to install if I wanted to enable "Desktop Effects".
The thing is, I have not and can not enable the effects if I am using the Beryl windows manager. It does all its cool things, but I just do not have the borders.
If I select Copiz in the Beryl Manager, then I can turn on desktop effects but I still do not have or I loose all window borders and have to right click the program on the menu bar to close, move or resize the window. If the effects are already enabled, I can then switch to the Beryl windows manager, but still will not have the borders. If I stay in either Beryl or Compiz and switch off the desktop effects, the borders still do not show. However, If I go to the Metacity (gnome window manager) my borders reappear.
However, if I then turn on the Desktop Effects, I loose all the borders again.
I have had to re-install Ubuntu 6 times and it has always been due to a graphic problem with my card and the driver/s I have tried to use. (I am a Graphic designer)
I have only once gotten it to work and that was a fluke. I do not know how or what I had done, but that was 3 re-installs ago...lol
If you need anything else from me, I will of course try to supply it, but you may have to walk me through the process of getting it for you.
Take care
