Unable to save some files as root: An unexpected error: Error writing a file: Invalid argument

Bug Description

My system: Ubuntu 15.04

I had edited as root the /etc/mtab file and while trying to save it, I had recieved follownig error message (typed as displayed):

"Unable to save /etc/mtab".
An unexpected error: Error writing a file: Invalid argument

Additionally, it's independant from if the backups are enabled or not

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 15.04 (vivid) reached end-of-life on February 4, 2016.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported in a currently supported version of Ubuntu?

Please let us know if you do otherwise this bug report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.
