Bug Description

Steps to reproduce: in any app that has a TextField, rotate the device to landscape, then back to portrait, and observe how the rendering of the TextField is pixelated/aliased.

This is particularly visible in the browser app, but can be observed e.g. in the messaging app too. I’m attaching a screenshot that shows the issue in the browser.

Could this issue be caused by the shell rotation feature that landed a couple of weeks ago?

Yes, it could be related. If it affects other shape-based components it is definitely an UbuntuShape bug, otherwise it could be something else?

Indeed, buttons also seem to be affected. This can be observed in the "about this phone" section of the system settings. I’m attaching a screenshot of how it looks after rotation.

Search textfield goes strange looking in the System Settings too after rotation from portrait to landscape and back to portrait - it's pixelated and has a dark inner shadow around the whole shape

Isn’t this a duplicate of bug #1455567 ?

Bug #1455567 was meant to work around the fact that the shell wasn't doing the rotation. It was just a content rotation done by the app. Now that the shell is doing the "right" thing, that work around is responsible for the aliasing we're seeing. I'm proposing a patch.
