Bug Description
Installing from the repository I get ptunnel version 0.71-2.
The current version (since september 2011) is 0.72 which, according to the CHANGELOG:
" Fixes an authentication bug that would manifest as hung connections with
protocols that send data from the client-side before receiving data from
the server-side. Thanks to StalkR for locating the bug and fixing it."
and that's exactly what happens when I try to connect to my server.
A self compiled version 0.72 works against the same server.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Now that ptunnel 0.72-1 is available in Ubuntu 16.04 and later, I believe this isse can be marked fix released.
This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please perform as much as possible of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.
