Bug Description

Description:
Please backport virtualbox and guest-additions-iso 5.0.0 (multiverse) from wily to trusty, utopic, vivid.

Reason for the backport:
========================
upgrading to 5.0.0 in trusty would allow running linux-image-generic-lts-vivid (3.19)
buliding dkms modules fails with 4.3.10

http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2015/02/virtualbox-fixed-kernel-3-19/

also now virtualbox should use the kernel module from linux-lts-package to build.

Testing:
========
Mark off items in the checklist [X] as you test them, but please leave the checklist so that backporters can quickly evaluate the state of testing.

You can test-build the backport in your PPA with backportpackage:
$ backportpackage -u ppa:costamagnagianfranco/locutusofborg-ppa -s wily -d trusty virtualbox
$ backportpackage -u ppa:costamagnagianfranco/locutusofborg-ppa -s wily -d utopic virtualbox
$ backportpackage -u ppa:costamagnagianfranco/locutusofborg-ppa -s wily -d vivid virtualbox

Reverse dependencies:
=====================
The following reverse-dependencies need to be tested against the new version of virtualbox. For reverse-build-dependencies (-Indep), please test that the package still builds against the new virtualbox. For reverse-dependencies, please test that the version of the package currently in the release still works with the new virtualbox installed. Reverse- Recommends, Suggests, and Enhances don't need to be tested, and are listed for completeness-sake.

Please hold on, I'm the Debian maintainer, I'll upload shortly something for wily, and backporting from there would be so far better.

(5.0 is gonna be released soon, we are already in RC)
the 5.0 claims to fix many issues like the 3d one, or many kernel incompatibilities (because now the kernel module is provided also inside the ubuntu kernel)

Ok, 5.0 is only in RC2, so I guess we can go for the wily version, that is the most stable for now :)

I'm uploading right now and I'll test it again (I tested it some weeks ago, but the trusty -lts- packages might have changed something)

for trusty the gcc-4.9 needs to be commented (we added it on Debian to avoid pick of gcc-5 because it was failing there)

Please backport it if possible, thanks

Any chance for the backport of virtualbox-dkms to trusty?
With linux-image-generic-lts-vivid from 14.04.3 LTS (Trusty Tahr) kernel now is 3.19.0-26 and virtualbox does not work any more (because of missing vboxdrv.ko module.

Yes, I'll look at processing this tonight (I believe it was tested)

FWIW, virtualbox is uploaded to vivid and trusty backports and can be accepted once testdrive is tested on trusty and/or vivid (meaning that each release can be tested and accepted separately)

Martin (and possibly Micah),

Sorry to ask stupid questions, but I thought that you might have more of an idea than me:

Is Oracle's latest version of VBOX working on ubuntu?
Is there any chance of backporting 5.0.10-dfsg-1 from Xenial to Wily?
How is testing going?
Is the GCC issue (mentioned above) related to graphics? ->

I've been having lots of problems with my AMD graphics over the last few months and this is apparently due to the GCC update. Ubuntu have triaged this several times and have ended up rolling back to GCC 4.9, Every major kernel update makes my machine unbootable. This reminds me chillingly of the old BSOD situations I suffered years ago no my windows boxes every time I updated my video drivers.

Thanks,
Rich

I'm using virtualbox-5.0 (5.0.12-104815~Ubuntu~trusty) now.
I'm having no problems with linux-headers-generic-lts-vivid (3.19.0.42.27), kernel modules compile successfully (as expected).
I'm using intel graphics (from my i5), no AMD or Nvidia graphics.
I'm using gcc (4:4.8.2-1ubuntu6) from trusty.

@Rich.T: are you having compile problems with the virtualbox module or are you having that lovely trouble with the kernel module from the AMD driver (that constantly gets out of sync with the kernel)?
