Here are backtraces. I followed https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace to get these. Not that I am giving two-- the first is after I click ok to 'The evolution addressbook has quit unexpectedly' message. It didn't seem that useful. So I generated the 2nd backtrace, which I did before clicking Ok to 'The evolution addressbook has quit unexpectedly' message.

Please let me know if you need more information. It would be great to get this regression fixed before Gutsy is released.

Does that happen if you disable your caldav calendar?

Yes. I removed it via Edit/Preferences/Calendar and Tasks/Calendar Publishing.

Interestingly, if I disabled the calendars by unchecking them, if I closed evolution and restarted it, they would be re-enabled. Like I said though, I completely removed it and could still trigger the bug. I know it's gone because I no longer see the 'Couldn't open dav://jail.strandboge.com/calendars/jamie: Generic error' message in .xsession-errors.

I have got the same problem. I will experiment with evolution as soon as possible. Do you want to know anything specific ?

This may be a duplicate of bug 135471. Unfortunately, Jamie gdb-ed evolution, not evolution-data-server, so we cannot be sure.

@ Jamie, Thorsten: can you please:

1. completely stop Evo -- on a terminal, "evolution --force-shutdown"
2. start Evolution normally -- but do nothing there;
3. on a terminal, run GDB: "gdb -p `pidof evolution-data-server-1.12`
4. tell GDB to continue execution of e-d-s (type "continue" on the gdb prompt)
5. Now, back to Evolution itself: reproduce the error. This should cause the GDB session to print out a SIG, and stop executing e-d-s;
6. back to gdb: "bt full", and then please post the output here.

Thanks

I don't seem to have a lot of symbols in this backtrace, but it is attached.

$ dpkg -l|grep dbgsym|awk '{print $2}'
evolution-data-server-dbgsym
evolution-dbgsym
libc6-dbgsym
libebook1.2-9-dbgsym
libecal1.2-7-dbgsym
libedataserver1.2-9-dbgsym
libedataserverui1.2-8-dbgsym
libgtk2.0-0-dbgsym

Let me know which other packages I need to get more symbols if you need them

Yes, they are the same... even with part of the stack trace unusable, the expansion of the evo function call shows a search in any field in Contacts.

I will mark upstream & this one as duplicates. Please comment on bug 135471 from now on. Thanks for the prompt response.

Has this issue been resolved? I'm still getting the error message when I try to open a category.
