Bug Description

This view: portal_catalog/manage_catalogView
reports this information: portal_catalog contains 3,658 record(s).

But if you contrain by portal type, it will for example report: portal_catalog contains 35 record(s).
In fact, it should report something like: portal_catalog contains 35 record(s) of type Committee.

The ZCatalog's catalogView doesn't know about portal type and has no type filter.

affects: zope2 → zope-cmf

Maybe the desired outcome is to have the ZMI view which does the filtering show the current values which define the filter, and then note how many objects match the filter (maybe still showing the total count). E.g. something like:

 FILTER
 ---------
 Type: Committee

 Matching records: 35 / 3658.

If the view applying indexes as a fiter is generic to ZCatalog (I confess I can't recall where the code lives now), then it should be able to produce such output, even though it remains ignorant of any semantics associated with any particular index.

The CMF portal_catalog tool uses the same ZMI views as used by the generic ZCatalog. There is no option to constrain the catalog contents by type, only by path.

Changed in zope-cmf:
status: New → Invalid
