Could you please verify which inkscape build is actually launched by that command and whether or why it was configured and compiled with the (experimental) dbus API enabled?
AFAICT (I checked the latest build logs for the stable and trunk Ubuntu 12.04 packages) the (experimental) dbusapi is not enabled in any of the PPAs provided by ~inkscape.dev (neither stable nor trunk). If you can't figure out how to retrieve and install a stable Inkscape package which was regularly configured (without built-in support for DBus interface), you probably will have to take care that the environment in which the command is run is set up such that the inkscape process can connect to a current session dbus.
