How about telling the affected people HOW to fix the problem? For example, I just upgraded from 14.04 to 15.04, but I had long since stopped running the relatively ancient Ubuntu package in favor of the official Oracle package. But now I am stuck in a loop.

Removing the official version is not sufficient. I cannot install the Ubuntu package because I still get:

insserv: script virtualbox: service vboxdrv already provided!
insserv: exiting now!
update-rc.d: error: insserv rejected the script header
dpkg: error processing package virtualbox (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of virtualbox-dkms:

install synaptic or whatever, search the virtualbox-* packages and do a purge, or look e.g. to the ton of similar bug reports here, and you will find a solution for sure :)

sudo apt-get --purge remove virtualbox-*

Despues:

sudo apt-get autoremove

Pero de todas maneras no puedo instalar virtualbox amd64, solo me instala de 32 bits

install synaptic and search for virtualbox. there should be some virtualbox package that hasn't been cleaned.

BTW how did you install the official virtualbox? by deb file or .run? in the latter case I guess you need to clean it manually
(this might include remove vboxdrv from /etc/* and lib/*
