Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Gutsy. Thunderbird version: 2.0.0.6-0ubuntu4.

When i change system localization to spanish or italian gmail disappears from account wizard. It is present (and seems to work) on en_gb system.

Thunderbird downloaded from official site also has gmail in this wizard whatever the language is.

Some discussion with some screen shots can be found here:

Sorry, a correction is needed, under en_GB it doesn't show too. Some more extensive list of when it is present and when not:

Shows:
en_BW, en_HK, en_US, en_ZA
he_IL
hi_IN
zu_ZA

Does not show:
en_GB
es_ES, es_MX
fr_FR, fr_CA
it_IT, it_CH

Thunderbird doesn't seem to be in launchpad translations anywhere, so can't check if it is just a missing string. Users may be confused if applications behave differently depending on the locale.

So your saying that only certain locales show the gmail entry in the wizard?
What locales with upstream package do you not see gmail in the wizard?

Changed in thunderbird:
assignee: nobody → mozilla-bugs
status: New → Incomplete

That's right. The test procedure was to just install support for many languages and go on logging in with a different language for session and starting (newly installed) thunderbird.

What do you mean by upstream package? What i'm saying applies to the newest gutsy package. I can get an even newer build from the official site (same version number though) and everything works with it (there are always five entries). But this is not a package but a standalone thunderbird.

Neither the program prints any warning nor the logs contain any sign of a problem.

I'll try to attach some screen shots, wish me luck ;)

to avoid misunderstandings I'll try to clarify what's happening without using the word "upstream":

As described and discussed here: (https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/13996) official mozilla builds of Thundebird (taken directly from Mozilla Thundebird website) are showing in every locale 5 options in the configuration wizard. As Wrwrwr said, some versions of Thunderbird packaged and included in Gutsy show only three or four options in the configuration wizard:

Ubuntu Gutsy locale packages showing 3 options:

en_GB
es_ES, es_MX
fr_FR, fr_CA
it_IT, it_CH

NOTE:

Every official Mozilla locale builds of Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 (binaries for generic GNU/linux systems, not specific .deb packages for gutsy) are showing 5 options during the configuration wizard:

Any news guys? I'm waiting for someone to fix this, though the status of the bug is still on "incomplete". What do you need to make it "confirmed" and fixed? Do you plan to fix it before releasing 7.10 or what?
Sorry for my rudeness but this bug can be a real pain in the neck for non english speaking users!

Hello Wr,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird. You made this bug report in 2007 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 145886
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.
G

Huh, this report is nearly ten years old :-) Nevertheless, I've just tried with one of the formerly troublesome locales. Things look differently now, there's a choice for creating a new account (just gandi.net) or using an existing one. With the latter, I've been able to successfully configure a GMail box, so this can likely be closed.
