Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.1 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Hi

I have run the command apport-collect 1456656.

How to update the upstream kernal ?

The latest version of kernal is 3.16.0-37 is shown in my Update Manager. The default kernal now is 3.13.0-37.

Should I update it to the latest kernal in the Update Manager ? Will it crash my system ?

I have downloaded and tried the Ubuntu as live CD without installing.

But, still no luck. It is not showing/ detecting the wireless connection. Only wired is working.

Hi Chris,

The apport-collect 1456656 did not work in the live version. So, I removed the Linux mint and installed the given Vivid ubuntu :

But after installing the ubuntu I was getting the below error when I ran the command.

subin@subin-Lenovo-G50-45:~$ apport-collect 1456656
dpkg-query: no packages found matching linux

Please let me know what should I do. Appreciate your help very much. Thanks !

Chris,

I have updated the BIOS from the link provided as requested. But, nothing changed, still WIFI card is not getting detected.

Moreover, by default, Secure Boot was enabled, so only Windows was loading everytime. So, I went into the BIOS setup and disabled the Secure Boot. But still, the grub is not showing up and Windows is booting by default.

So, I had to open the Boot menu manually and choose Ubuntu to bring up Ubuntu.

After that I found that there is no change to the connectivity. Its still the same.

The output of the given command is:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

A2CN34WW(V2.02)
02/28/2015

Could you please let me know how to make the grub appear as before the BIOS update even with the Secure boot disabled ?
Is there any command to make it work ?

Thanks,
Chris

Subin, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

Subin, just to advise, kernels that have errors when installing do not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. As previously outlined in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1456656/comments/49 you will need to continue trying successively earlier version of the mainline kernel in Ubuntu (not Mint) until a testable environment is available.

Chris,

As I have informed earlier. I had already removed Mint and installed the vivid version from the link you provided.

The current kernel is :

3.19.0-18-generic

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 15.04
Release: 15.04
Codename: vivid

Then I updated the BIOS as suggested.

After that I tried to install the latest upstream kernels by downloading them from the link provided and using the below command:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Sorry, I'm not able to get you. I'm a newbie to Linux.

Please advice me which version of the kernel should I install ?
