I have the same problem with a Dell Latitude D600, bcm4306 card. After fixing the problem in bug 197819 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/b43-fwcutter/+bug/197819) the wireless allowed me to connect to my network, but after providing the network key it just hangs. I have attached a section of my daemon.log, which seems to contain relevant information.

At the moment I don't have my old Acer laptop, but I can say that behavior was not present in ubuntu hardy beta, and still no present in my new Acer Laptop.

the new one have an (atheros) AR5007 card, and is still not recognized correctly, I also need to compile madwifi by myself to get it working....
