Bug Description

Hi Friends,
Sorry for the vague-ish title, I'm not sure of the proper terminology. I'm not sure if this might be called a "focus" issue, or something else. And definitely not a super-serious problem. Windows7, 64-bit, sp1; Inkscape 0.91, 32-bit (EXE) and 64-bit (7z).

Please see attached file (attached for simplifying the description - but I don't think this problem is specific to any particular file or unique content - has happened to me in many files, only when using 0.91).

1 - Select the blob/star shape with the Gradient tool
2 - Open the Fill and Stroke dialog > Fill tab (whether it's open before or after selection doesn't matter, just need it to see the problem)
3 - Select the middle stop (looks pink, but really is white with 50% opacity)
4 - Notice that everything is displayed properly in both F/S dialog and the Style Indicator area (specifically the opacity)
5 - Swith to the Selection tool, in any way you like
6 - Notice in both the F/S dialog and the Style Indicator area, that the opacity is still reported as 50%, and it's still displaying the middle stop info

Since switching to the Selection tool, I expect that the indications for the stop should no longer be displayed, and instead we should see the fill info displayed (list of gradients, etc).

There are several ways to get the proper display, but the easiest seems to be just switch to the Node tool. Instantly the proper display appears. then switch back to Selection tool. Since it happens dependably every time, I've already gotten in the habit of switching straight to the Node tool, and then Selection.

Let me know if you need any additional info, files, etc.

Thank you very much :-)

Let's use this report to track the regression with the opacity slider in 'Fill and Stroke' - it might require a different fix than the current style indicator in the status bar (bug #1314208).

Confirming (reproduced with Inkscape 0.91 r13725 and 0.91+devel r14159 on OS X 10.7.5) that the opacity slider in 'Fill and Stroke' does not update to the correct value of the current selection on tool switch, after having selected a gradient stop with the gradient tool, or any other tool which has gradient editing enabled.

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Low
milestone: none → 0.92
status: New → Confirmed
tags: added: regression
summary: - gradient opacity/alpha not displayed properly
+ Opacity of last selected gradient stop persists in 'Fill and stroke' and
+ status bar after tool switch
