Bug Description
Binary package hint: gutsy-wallpapers
All of this information is neatly organized in this Ubuntu forum thread:
http://
"When I first saw the new wallpaper, I strongly argued against it. Now that it has improved, I think it should stay. I have several reasons for my position:
* Copycat: The fear of copying Vista is thrown out the window when you realize that Vista copied the wave concept from Mac, and Fedora is also using curves in it's next wallpaper. It's a common and accepted background.
* Opinions: We cannot use elephant skin or giraffe patterns as backgrounds. There will inevitably be people who will be grossed out by the textures/colors and find them uncomfortable. This may cause them to stray away from Ubuntu completely.
* Complaints: The problems testers complained about -- darkness and image quality -- were addressed and fixed. The current wallpaper looks better than the initial one.
* Neutrality: Waves are neutral and they'll be neutral to the widest variety of new users. As long as we don't scare prospective users the wallpaper has done its job.
* Resources: Although I usually believe that people should do what they are most passionate about, in this case, I think that a lot of energy is being wasted on something whose effects are being exaggerated. I think people should do something else to help out Ubuntu; anything is better than rallying for a wallpaper change."
